Messi's 91 goals in 2012 is one of the greatest records ever.

The Argentinean broke the record of Gerd Muller's 85 goals in a calendar year by scoring an amazing 91 in 2012.

It is hard to believe that Lionel Messi scored 91 goals in a single year. This is amazing because no player from this modern generation has even come close to that record. Not Harry Kane, not Cristiano Ronaldo, not the Brazilian Ronaldo, not Alan Shearer, not Robert Lewandowski.

Ronaldo's scored 61 in the same year and Harry Kane scored 56 in 2017. The fact that the closest in this modern generation is 30 short of Messi's record is unbelievable. He was absolutely unbelievable in 2012.

His record is far more impressive when you consider how the quality of defense has vastly improved over the last five or six decades. Tactics and strategies have become so advanced today. The quality of the game itself has improved so much, which is why I think this record is one of the most amazing records in football today. It will take something truly special to break this record now.

I honestly feel that this record is immortal.
But I really hope someone proves me wrong.
